Bokkie Park male livestock auctioned

The auction drew bidders from as far afield as Sundra and Krugersdorp

The City of Ekurhuleni sold 77 of its male livestock at the Bokkie Park to the highest bidders on October 25.

According to the metro, the objective of the auction, led by Spokes Auctioneers, was to sell all its male livestock. This included pigs, goats and sheep, preferably to commercial farmers to purchase fresh sets of genetics for breeding.

The auction drew bidders from as far afield as Sundra and Krugersdorp and fetched R46 300 through the sale of 55 pigs, 15 goats and seven sheep.
One of the bidders, a clearly excited Wynand Kaufman from Van Dyk Park who owns a commercial cattle farm in Sundra, bought over 30 pigs (mostly piglets).
“I was a bit late for the sheep, but I’m happy that I picked up pig bargains today. They are still young and fresh, with the youngest only about five months. This will enable me to start a pig farm,” he said.

One of the bidders, Wynand Kaufman, bought over 30 pigs. He intends to start a pig farm.

The city held an auction at the Bokkie Park last year where excess animals were sold to bidders.
These included 20 sheep, 35 goats, 70 pigs, six ostriches, 150 geese and 20 chickens.
The metro has not revealed what this auction brought in.
