Another successful Oosrand Secondary charity golfing event

The overall winner of the tournament this year was Pastor Leizel Klassen.

The annual Oosrand Secondary School charity golf tournament, held at the ERPM Golf Course on September 25, managed to raise over R45 000 in aid of the school.

One of the event organisers, Lester du Preez, described the event filled with fun and excitement, as a great success. He thanked all those who participated, making the tournament a success, saying they are encouraged by the support they received for the charity golf tournament.

“We had amazing support from local golfers, individuals, local businesses and partners who came on board with support in the form of prizes and hole sponsorship. The monetary support saw the tournament surpassing its minimum target and making a profit. Every single one of you is a hero to us, thank you very much.”

The event was also graced by Ward 34 Clr Edith Klassen, alumni and SGB of the school and the Reiger Park Community forum members attendance.

The overall winner of the tournament this year was Pastor Leizel Klassen. This was the first time a woman won the tournament since the initiative was born six years ago.
The sale of raffle tickets also formed part of the charity initiative for the day.

A meeting with stakeholders was held over the weekend to identify priorities in using the money raised at the tournament. Supporting the school’s ICT is among the identified causes.

The school principal, Peter Arendse, explained the school is partly funded by the government. Every year the gap between this funding and the actual cost to run the school widens. The balance needs to be raised by external sources and community fundraising such as the golf day.
“This golf day is an important fundraising initiative to help supplement the portion the school receives from the government.”
