‘Amapiano’ artist Dalmaine Cochrane Jr (26) renowned among his fans as Meneer Cee is going to drop a new EP, Wie Se Kind is Jay soon.
The Reiger Park artist said he has collaborated with producer Jay Music from Gqeberha.
“I formed my EP’s name from my debut single called Wie Se Kind is Die and the name of the producer who mastered the EP Jay Music.
This is an amapiano EP, but with a different sound, because it comprises a mixture of Gqom, EDM and deep-house music. Jay Music has fused the music genres and produced a deep-groove music EP.”
He added that the EP has a soulful and different taste from the existing catalogue of music that has only been dance hits.
“I aim to showcase my introspective and sensitive side with the new project, but not losing the stronghold to my fans that are party goers.
“The EP can be listened to by everyone. I plan to appeal to other markets that one wouldn’t expect to reach in the amapiano sound and culture. With this EP we aim to bring Afrikaans into the urban music market. It took me seven days and three months to perfect the tune and sound of the EP and I love the overall results.
“I ventured into the amapiano genre because I’m fascinated by the raw flavour and authenticity the musicians of the genre have. Producers such as El Maestro and Loobub Dj were the first to experiment with Afrikaans vocals on the sound and it was good.
He explained that he was enthralled by the unique contribution of the artists to the genre so followed suit.
“I was inspired by them to release my ‘Afriyanos’ song titled Wie Se Kind is Die. This song has over 1.3 million views on YouTube, 45 000 Tik Tok dance challenges and 45 million views on the hashtag #WieSeKindisDie.”
