New broom for Ekurhuleni mayor’s office

High on his list of priorities will be to ensure that residents of Ekurhuleni have greater feedback on service delivery issues from the mayor as well as the MMCs

The City of Ekurhuleni Mayor Tania Campbell has appointed a new mayoral spokesperson.

Warren Gwilt has been appointed with effect from September 1, taking over from Phakamile Mbengashe who has been in the role since the beginning of former mayor Mzwandile Masina’s term.
Mbengashe recently took up the role of divisional head of communications and media relations for the City of Ekurhuleni.

Gwilt is a seasoned communicator who is armed with a Bachelor of Arts, majoring in journalism and philosophy from the University of Johannesburg.
He has a fascinating insight into the city’s leadership styles and political dynamics and has vast experience working in government communications.

He previously held several positions, including serving as spokesperson to the former DA mayoral candidates for Ekurhuleni Ghaleb Cachalia and Refiloe Nt’sekhe where he also served as the head of the candidates’ campaigns.
He previously worked as a freelance journalist and has a short period stint in broadcast journalism working at Yfm.

High on his list of priorities will be to ensure that residents of Ekurhuleni have greater feedback on service delivery issues from the mayor as well as the MMCs.
“Residents must be kept in the loop as to how the multi-party coalition government is working to improve service delivery for all who reside in Ekurhuleni,” said Gwilt.

Meanwhile, the mayor said she is delighted to welcome Gwilt to her office and team.
“His experience, qualifications and capabilities will add value to our ability to communicate effectively with the residents of Ekurhuleni. I trust that he will do a splendid job in affirming the multi-party coalition’s back-to-basics programme in the city,” said Campbell in a statement.

The mayor also thanked Mbengashe for his dedication to the task since taking up the role.
“I wish to express my gratitude to Mbengashe. I also wish to congratulate him on his new appointment and we believe that he will continue to serve the residents of Ekurhuleni with distinction,” said the mayor.
