WIFA U17 crowned division one champions

Of the 20 games, they won 14, drawing three while also losing three. They scored 68 goals and only conceded 34 to end their season on top.

The Woodlands International Football Academy (WIFA)’s U17s are the Eastern Local Football Association’s division one league champions.

They were declared league winners on September 4 following a 3-1 win over Springs Old Boys to cap-off successful season that started in April. They collected 45 points from their 20 league games.

Of the 20 games, they won 14, drawing three while also losing three. They scored 68 goals and only conceded 34 to end their season on top.

The team’s manager, Calvin Deetlefs thanked the players for their dedication throughout the campaign.

“The boys played together for the first time this season after our trials in February. We only lost two games and drew two in the first half of the season. We came back even stronger in the second half, suffering only one defeat.

“I could not be more proud of what this team has showcased over the year for WIFA. It’s only the beginning of so much to come with these talented players,” he said.

Coach Mojalefa Khaboliso stated that despite minor setbacks during the season, his charges always bounced back.

“Our team shifted into another gear towards the latter stages of the season. It was a joy to watch. The victory is thoroughly deserved and I wish the boys greater success in the future.

“A big thank you to Les Grobler for the guidance and to the parents and friends for always supporting us.”

Khaboliso reserved special words for the Superstars Academy and Woodland International College staff members, who, he said, played an imperative role in their league success.

“Well done to all the staff at Woodlands and Superstars Academy. You provided the foundations to a memorable campaign. T appreciate this moment, you have to look back and realise the steps they had to take to travel and experience this solid journey,” he said.
