Gauteng Sport Awards nominations open

The closing date for nominations is September 16 at 16:00.

Gauteng MEC for Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation, Mbali Hlophe officially opened nomination for the 11th Gauteng Sports Awards on August 18.

Gauteng residents and sporting bodies or federations are urged to nominate Gauteng-based candidates in the 20 categories for consideration by the closing date of September 16 at 16:00.

Candidates can only be nominated for their performance and achievements from August 1, 2021, to August 31, this year.

The independent adjudication panel, which consists of experienced individuals within sport, media and academia, will decide on the finalists in each category from nominations received and will be announced ahead of the gala ceremony in November.

The 20 categories include Sports Personality of The Year, which will be decided by public SMS vote. The Lifetime Achievement Award will be decided by the MEC from nominations submitted for consideration. This year the Sports Team of the Year is split into male and female categories.

“We are excited to open up the nomination process to the people of Gauteng to identify the province’s top performing sports stakeholders whose success has been showcased on an international level in some instances.

“We need Gauteng sporting federations and citizens to nominate qualifying candidates for the awards for them to receive their highly deserved recognition for their outstanding achievements,” said Hlophe.

The Gauteng Sports Awards are organised by the Gauteng Department of Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation supported by the provincial Sports Confederation.
