New principal to put Wit Deep Primary on the map

The newly appointed principal is ready for the challenge.

Wit Deep Primary School will now be run under the auspices of Heather van den Aardweg (47).

This comes after Tina Worsley recently retired.

Van den Aardweg, born and raised in Germiston, started teaching at Wit Deep Primary School in 1998 as a Grade Five and Six teacher. She then became head of the foundation phase department in 2001 and deputy principal in 2018.

“We are like a big family at Wit Deep Primary and tend to stay here for a long time,” she explained.

She said she is honoured about becoming the new principal and is ready for the challenge.

“My vision is to put our school on the map and make it more community-orientated. I want to let people know about the amazing things we achieve.

“It is a challenging job, but I wouldn’t want to do anything else. You have to think out of the box, come up with solutions and be visible.”

She thanked Worsely for being a mentor and giving her the opportunities she needed.

Her advice to aspiring teachers is, “Even when it is challenging, just keep going.”

Apart from being principal, van den Aardweg is the SGB chairperson at Boksburg High School and a qualified remedial therapist.
