Police warn of spike in shop robberies in Reiger Park

The police are gathering information about the robbers and they are promising to get them soon.

The Reiger Park SAPS spokesperson, Constable Zanele Motaung, warns shop owners in Reiger Park and nearby areas to be vigilant as a gang of robbers is targeting shops, mainly late in the evening.

“We have information that it is four suspects terrorising business. It is believed that the suspects are using a concrete slab to break the wall of the shops at night and then they attack the shop owner and steal groceries and other goods.One of the robbers is armed with a gun.

“This spate of robberies started recently and the latest happened in Road Reserve informal settlement on July 26, where a Somalian shop owner was robbed.

“We are investigating the robberies and call on the public to assist with information. A case of robbery has been opened, ” said Motaung.

She added that they have increased patrols in the area. Anyone with information about the robberies may call the Reiger Park SAPS on 011 960 0220/0219.
