Gauteng Legislature checks out Boksburg police stations

The holding cells at Boksburg SAPS were found to be inadequate.

DA Gauteng member of the provincial legislature and also community safety spokesperson Ruhan Robinson and local councillors conducted oversite visits at all police stations in Boksburg on August 1 as part of the Gauteng Police Watch initiative.

The members assessed whether the SAPS facilities, including Boksburg North SAPS, Boksburg SAPS, Reiger Park SAPS and Dawn Park SAPS, are adequately resourced and able to deliver service to communities.

The first oversight visit of the day was at Boksburg North SAPS. The visit started with a meeting between the members of the DA and station commander Colonel Mack Mngomezulu, where the challenges and performance of the station were discussed.

“Not only is this station far too small, but also has a number of very high stats when it comes to certain crimes. There are challenges such as a lack of parking space at the station and a vehicle shortage.”

“The holding cells for women are inadequate because sanitation facilities are not working,” said Robinson.
Furthermore, the police station’s telephone lines are dysfunctional.
Residents are urged to call the alternative number 082 575 1740 to reach the police services.

Reiger Park
Robinson highlighted there is very little space for facilities and police officers at the station.
“We will be tabling questions on the supposed relocation that was supposed to happen years ago,” he added

Dawn Park
“The station has been upgraded in terms of its structure but its buildings simply cannot house more officers and the upgrade cannot be implemented as a result,” Robinson highlighted.

He added they were shocked to find visible policing only has one vehicle that is in working order.
