Round Table keeps the poor warm with donated blankets

One of the blanket drive beneficiaries,, whose shack was burnt to the ground and I lost absolutely everything, appeals for more donations.

To help shield needy families from the biting cold winter, Round Table B17 donated over 270 blankets to scores of underprivileged residents of Blue Sky informal settlement on July 23.
The team also donated about 220 tinned foods to the residents.

This gesture of goodwill forms part of the Boksburg-based charitable organisation’s annual Winter Knights project.

Boksburg Round Table chairperson, Walter van Rooyen, said the organisation would like to help as many people as possible throughout the winter season. He encourages the public to support their initiative to benefit the less fortunate, by donating blankets, beanies, scarves, and non-perishable foods.
Donations can be dropped off at the Round Table Clubhouse at 32 Lancaster Road. Or contact Cuan Maizey on 072 729 6406.

Van Rooyen thanked Graphite Security for providing their service to ensure the handover goes smooth and those who contributed to the blanket drive to ensure the initiative is a success.
The organisation is also planning to hold a Donkey Derby fundraiser in September and the proceeds will go to charity.
Residents of Blue Sky expressed their appreciation for the organisation’s act of kindness, with others saying they feel neglected by authorities as there has not been any development in their area for years.

Appeal for more help
One of the beneficiaries, Khanyeleni Mantsha, said the help arrived at the right time.

Khanyeleni Mantsha thanked Round Table for the support. However, he appeals for more donations after loosing everything he owns in a shack fire.

“Although not enough, this will go a long way to keeping me warm from the cold nights. My shack was burnt to the ground and I lost absolutely everything.
“The only thing left is the clothes I wore before the shack was completely gutted by the fire on Wednesday, (July 20),” said the devastated Mantsha.

Mantsha appeals for help, and anyone who wants to donate something can contact him on 076 138 8733.
