Truck lootings continue on Wit Deep Road

The Reiger Park police were out in numbers dealing with crime at Wit Deep Road.

The Reiger Park police dispersed a crowd of people who were looting a truck on Wit Deep Road on July 13.

The street crosses through Delmore Park, Ulana and Angelo informal settlements. Reiger Park SAPS station commander Lieutenant Colonel Eugene Roets said the criminals were pretending to be protesters.

“We deal with these lootings daily. People in those areas are saying these crimes are happening because they have a power crisis as their illegal connections were disconnected by the Ekurhuleni Energy Department. However, we have been dealing with these criminal acts for a long time, long before the illegal connections were disconnected.

“These criminals normally barricade the road with stones and thereafter they target trucks that are carrying valuable goods. We advise truck drivers to avoid the Wit Deep Road.

“The trucks are normally attacked in the mornings and hardly at night. We are going to have a meeting with other law enforcement agencies on July 14 regarding the crisis on the road. We are all going to interact and come up with precise preventative solutions for criminal activities on the road.

“We are dealing with a lot of crime on that road and it is also making my job difficult because I have to deploy a lot of police there and our station becomes compromised,” said Roets.
