Boksburg SPCA inspectorate flat damaged in an accident

The truck driver allegedly lost control of the vehicle due to wet weather conditions.

It is still unclear what is going to happen to the Boksburg SPCAs inspectorate flat, which is owned by the metro, that was damaged in an accident along Campbell Road on the morning of June 25.

According to Boksburg SPCA manager, Vicky Finnemore, they are devastated by the damage caused because they use this building frequently for our after-hours staff.

“We are just thankful that none of our employees was present when this occurred.

“It will be devastating if we have to cover the cost of the damage ourselves, however, we approached the metro for financial assistance but, were told not to expect any promises.

“We would require the services of a specialist or a professional company to assess the damage because the building is dangerous. The entire ceiling has collapsed inside the building due to branches breaking through the roof, causing damage to the furniture, the geyser, the bathroom and pretty much everything else.

The manager highlighted that the bridge where the accident occurred has been a problem for years now as accidents happen regularly in inclement weather conditions.

Finnemore pointed out that the structure is old and has been functional for several decades.

EMPD spokesperson Constable Deliwe Ndlovu previously said the truck driver drove into a tree, which led the tree to fall on one of the municipal buildings said to be rented by Boksburg SPCA. It is believed the truck driver lost control of the vehicle due to the wet weather.

The other driver, who wished to remain anonymous, stated he was on his way to work in his GWM H5 at about 07:15 in the morning.

“I was driving from the SPCAs entrance in the direction of St Dominic’s Catholic School for Girls. When I drove around the corner in my lane, the truck bumped me.

“I can’t remember anything else until I woke up again a few minutes later and saw I was in an accident and was knocked off the bridge.

“After struggling to get out of the car I noted the scene. I saw that the truck was over the side of the road and drove down a tree. The paramedic examined me and I was taken to the hospital.

“The doctor was concerned that I injured my back and I was sent for X-rays and a CT scan.

“I was discharged from the hospital later that day, with whiplash and a few injuries. I am still recovering from the injuries,” said the 39-year-old Dayanglen resident.

Ndlovu said the truck driver sustained slight injuries.

The Advertiser is still awaiting comment from the metro.
