Outreach ministry needs support for its feeding scheme

The Devoted Street Ministries programme also offers art classes to underprivileged children.

The leader of the outreach programme Devoted Street Ministries, Emmanuel Kaitano, is appealing for donations of food for their weekly feeding scheme that supports 500 children in Villa Liza

The ministry is part of the Word and Life Church in Sunward Park.

“We also donate clothing to underprivileged people in Boksburg, including Villa Liza.

“The programme, aimed at alleviating poverty and ensuring children have access to nutritious food, was established three years ago and we have 31 members.

“We want to effect change in society. I became part of the programme because I was once a homeless child who lived on the streets. I know what it feels like to go without food and proper clothing.

“I don’t want other children to go through the same challenges I went through when I was young. I lived so many days without knowing where I will get food.

“It was painful, but I managed to survive. This doesn’t mean everyone can survive such conditions, and that’s why I’m helping others.

“We are planning to host a soccer tournament at the Sunward Park soccer ground soon to encourage youth to take part in sport. All teams around Boksburg are welcome to register for the tournament and they can call me for registration,” said Kaitano.

Anyone who wants to join the tournament or donate clothing or groceries may call Emmanuel on 063 244 3882.
