The matches between Tinus Crous and Luis Pereira and Awongile Somtseu and Gerrit Duvenage were evenly matched but it was the duel between Crous and Pereira that stood out.

It was a game of back and forth as none of the players wanted to lose. Crous was in superb form as his accuracy edged him closer to victory.

Needing only a point to win, Crous set himself well as two of his bowls enveloped the jack. But Pereira had other ideas as he bowled a screamer that smashed the balls to force a restart.

Charl Christensen from the Nelspruit Bowling Club.

Pereira won the following game to make it 20-18 but Crous soon found his mojo with two of his bowls stopping inches from the jack. Pereira tried to beat him but two of his bowls went straight in the ditch while two swerved away from the jack. Crous eventually claimed victory 21-18.

Somtseu had Duvenage’s number as he led the man from Richards Bay 13-0.

Duvenage didn’t go down without a fight as his accuracy began to frustrate Somtseu. But the Durbanite would go on to win the match 21-12.
