SPCA in desperate need of a new vehicle

Boksburg SPCA is a registered NPO and PBO and can provide a S18A tax donation certificate.

The Boksburg SPCA is in dire need of a replacement vehicle for its Nissan Hardbody purchased in 2000.

According to manager Vicky Finnemore, due to its age, this vehicle now has high maintenance costs, spares are becoming scarce and it has become unreliable.

“Our driver’s safety is of great concern, as he spends long hours collecting animals in this vehicle. The old engine technology results in us having to pay as much as R6 000 per month on petrol for this one vehicle, and we’re terrified to think how much more this will be with the projected fuel increases ahead.

“Our drivers are out on the road 365 days a year collecting stray, injured and unwanted animals. They respond to emergencies during the day, in the middle of the night, over weekends and in all types of weather.

“As the economy worsens, the calls for unwanted, sick and neglected animals have increased dramatically and our collection vehicles are virtually never off the road.

“We need reliability to ensure safety for our drivers and fuel efficiency to assist us financially,” she explained.

Vicky said the society needs a single cab, 2.5l diesel bakkie, as it needs to be able to tow a fully laden horsebox.

“We are appealing to any vehicle manufacturer or dealership, other business or individual that would consider donating such a vehicle to the Boksburg SPCA – either new or a low-mileage used vehicle.”
