Cansa recently announced its partnership with The Breast Mom, an online breastfeeding speciality space offering breastfeeding support products, accessories and advice.

When it comes to breastfeeding, passion is in big supply with the aim of encouraging mothers to breastfeed their babies when possible.

Jackie Toy, from The Breast Mom, explained, “The impact of breastfeeding is evident from day one and remains long after baby weans. The bond it creates is unbreakable, and incredible health benefits exist for both mum and baby. We’re here to help as many mums as possible breastfeed their babies in comfort and confidence.

“We’re honoured to be affiliated with Cansa and will be donating a portion of our profits from the sale of each Breast Bag.”

The Breast Mom are the creators of the Breast Bag, which is the perfect breastfeeding gift. It is complete with a downloadable support guide and filled with mindfully crafted breastfeeding accessories and mum must-haves.

South Africa has some of the lowest exclusive breastfeeding rates in the world in the first six months of a baby’s life, according to the World Health Organisation, sitting at an estimated 32%.

It’s believed much of this comes down to a lack of knowledge, personal attributes of the mother (including age, education, self-confidence, HIV status), the influence of family and community and traditional and cultural practices.

Exclusively breastfeeding babies for six months and continuing breastfeeding beyond six months benefits them in numerous ways.

Lucy Balona, spokesperson for Cansa, added, “We welcome the addition of The Breast Mom as cause-related partners to further educate mothers about lowering the cancer risk. Mothers benefit from breastfeeding, as there is strong evidence that shows those who breastfeed exclusively for six months and beyond have a lower chance of developing breast cancer. The risk for endometrial and ovarian cancers is also reduced through breastfeeding.”

The Breast Bag is sold online and promoted through social media platforms, mum support groups, paediatrician and gynaecologist rooms, midwife and local baby clinics.
