Boksburg Rugby Club clean-up a success

Boksburg Owls Rugby Club took it upon themselves to clean the metro-owned Prince George Park on March 26, where the club will host the Reiger Park-based East Rand United on April 2 for the Valke Peregrine League.

Boksburg Owls Rugby Club took it upon themselves to clean the metro-owned Prince George Park on March 26, where the club will host the Reiger Park-based East Rand United on April 2 for the Valke Peregrine League.

Rinus van der Linde, the Owls chairperson, explained the club’s committee was concerned because the metro has not mowed the lawns and the Valke Peregrine League is nearing.

“We coupled the clean-up with team building and reached out to the team members, their parents and former players to assist the club with a clean-up of the stadium, as they had a bye week,” explained van der Linden.

He described the event as a success.

“It was met with overwhelming response from the u-21 team, parents, friends, players and previous club players who were not hesitant to mow lawns, get rid of grass and weeds on the stands.

“Papers were picked up by young and old and gave the garden a new lease on life. All brought their own tools, weed-eaters and black bags and assisted.”

The chairperson thanked all those who supported the initiative.
