Gerhard Steyn’s wife shines as a Mrs SA semi-finalist

The hopeful semi-finalist would like to help animals and children through her platform.

Zelri Steyn, wife of Afrikaans musician Gerhard Steyn, is in the running to become Mrs South Africa 2022.

The Bartlett resident said she was overwhelmed when she found out she is a semi-finalist in the competition.

“I had butterflies in my stomach. I still have them, but it’s a great feeling. I’m so used to my comfort zones that it’s not always easy to move out of one. I just know in my heart this is where I’m supposed to be. I’m so excited about the plan God has for me.

“I always said someday I will enter Mrs SA, but by someday I meant maybe when I’m 40. I have never taken part in pageants. And then someone sent me a message and asked why don’t I enter the competition. I replied to her: ‘Are you crazy?’ I took a leap of faith, prayed about it, spoke to Gerhard, as well as a close friend, and then decided why not. If not now, when?”

The hopeful semi-finalist would like to help animals and children through her platform.

“I’m an animal lover. I feel people don’t care as much as they would do for other charities, and I want to be the difference. I want to help shelters that deal with animals and children,” added the owner of online clothing store Donkey & Darling.

“I want to be the best version of Zelri and push myself beyond the boundaries I have always set myself. I want to show any young lady, and even older ladies, you can achieve anything if you put your mind to it.”

Zelri added Gerhard and their daughters, Zardi and Zaniq, are fully behind her.

“Their support means everything to me.”

To vote for her, SMS Zelri Steyn to 47587.

The public can also vote directly on the Mrs South Africa Facebook page by liking Zelri’s photo. Voting closes on June 1.
