According to Boksburg North SAPS spokesperson Const Justice Ramaube, while on duty, some of the members noticed three men, suspected to be illegal miners, in the vicinity of Main Reef Road.
“Police gave chase. The men ran in different directions when realising police are on their heels.
“However, during that period, police discovered an abandoned Zabala double-barrel shotgun with ammunition and confiscated it as per the Firearm Control Act 60 of 2000,” said Ramaube.
He added no arrests were made, but preliminary investigations revealed the shotgun was reported stolen in Germiston on October 14, 2020.
Furthermore, the station’s operations yielded productive results whereby several people were searched and motorists issued with fines for being in contravention of the National Road Traffic Act.
