Court in Brief

The following cases were recently finalised in the Boksburg Magistrate’s Court:

• Noluvuyo Khoza from the Boksburg CBD pleaded not guilty on two counts, assault with the intention to cause grievous bodily harm and malicious damage to property, on January 10.

Count one (assault with the intention to cause grievous bodily harm): on August 12, last year, the accused assaulted a woman by stabbing her with a knife.

Count two (malicious injury to property): on August 12, last year, the accused damaged the same victim’s cellphone to the value of R8 493.36 and a gate remote key.

She was found guilty on the first count and not guilty on the second count on March 1.

The accused was sentenced to four months’ imprisonment, wholly suspended for five years. She was also declared unfit to possess a firearm.

Magistrate Havenga presided and prosecutor Lingane represented the State.

• Marvin Simelane from Johannesburg pleaded guilty, was found guilty and sentenced on a charge of theft on February 18.

On March 29, 2020, the accused, whilst acting in the furtherance of a common purpose, unlawfully and intentionally stole a man’s bank card. He was sentenced to a R4 000 fine or four months’ imprisonment.

He was further sentenced to eight months imprisonment, which was imposed but suspended for five years.

Magistrate Havenga presided and prosecutor Lingane represented the State.

• Xolani Mayoyo from Ramaphosa was sentenced to six months’ imprisonment, which was suspended for three years, on a charge of theft on March 7.

On July 3, last year, the accused stole items such as a black monitor, black keyboard, HD monitor, extension cable, emergency headlamp, surgical swabs and dustbin from a local hospital.

He pleaded that he stole the items to support his family.

Magistrate Bacon presided and prosecutor Maluleke represented the State.

• Jabulani Shavangu from Jerusalem informal settlement was sentenced to a R5 000 fine or five months’ imprisonment on a charge of theft.

On December 6, last year, the accused stole copper wiring off a Volvo truck harness, valued at R12 000, from Truck Busters. He was previously convicted for possession of dagga in 1998 in Piet Retief.

Magistrate Bacon presided and prosecutor Strydom represented the State.
