Councillor calls for disabled facilities at pools

The councillor wants public facilities like swimming pools to be accessible to all.

Ward 31 councillor Simangele Sabe wants the Ekurhuleni metro to address facilities for the disabled at public swimming pools.

She will be engaging with the Department of Sports, Recreation, Arts and Culture to find solutions on how to make these public facilities more accessible to disabled members, thereby eliminating any inherent discrimination that is evident through the design of these facilities.

“The DA in Ekurhuleni calls for more inclusivity for people with disabilities at our local swimming pools, particularly at Van Dyk Swimming Pool in Boksburg, where there is a lack of facilities to accommodate those with disabilities and thereby limiting their access.

“We are committed to serving all residents without discrimination, which involves providing equal access to all facilities within the metro,” she said.
Furthermore, Sabe encourages all residents to participate in signing a DA-led petition to compel all levels of government to build more accommodative facilities for all people.
