Flying squad finds R8-m worth of stolen goods in Benoni warehouse

Officers found the warehouse full of truck tyres, refrigerators, security locks, sewing machines and much more.

On January 18, Benoni Flying Squad officers arrested two suspects and recovered hijacked goods to the value of around R8-million.

Benoni Flying Squad communications officer WO Grant Giblin said officers were following up on information with a tracking company and, assisted by the EMPD, they descended on the Benoni South industrial area near Actonville at about 12:00.

“Upon arrival at a warehouse, two suspects were arrested as they were offloading alleged hijacked tyres from a truck.

“Officers found the warehouse full of truck tyres, refrigerators, security locks, sewing machines, boxes of wine, glue, polish, clothing, shoes and other electrical appliances,” Giblin said.

“These goods were mostly traced to five truck hijackings reported in Germiston, Boksburg North, Langlaagte, Sebenza and Moffatview, all in the past two months.

The scene was handed to the Provincial Investigation Unit for further investigation.
The suspects will appear in the Benoni Magistrate’s Court to face charges of possession of stolen and hijacked goods.
