Effects of fireworks continues to fall on deaf ears – SPCA
The society did not note an improvement in regards to fireworks.
The Boksburg SPCA took in about 15 stray dogs and cats following the New Year’s fireworks.
Manager Vicky Finnemore said about 10 dogs where received by the society two days after New Year’s Eve. The rest were cats.
“Although the fireworks were bad, we took in an average amount of strays compared to previous years.
“There has been no improvement. At least many animals were posted on community groups, which helped to reunite them with their owners quickly.
“It’s very demotivating when our efforts to educate people on the dangers of fireworks fall on deaf ears.
“One would think people have better things to spend their money on than noise makers that last a few seconds. This is especially when our economy is in such a bad state,” said Finnemore.
