EMPD tip of the week

Possession of reported stolen vehicle could land you in serious trouble

There is no admission of guilt if a motorist is found by the EMPD officers with a reported stolen or hijacked motor vehicle.

If the cornered motor vehicle is reported stolen or hijacked, the driver and passengers could be arrested and criminally charged at the nearest police station, so that they can appear at the relevant Magistrate’s Court.

Typically, during the festive season, most people buy motor vehicles from car dealerships or private persons. To avoid problems related to the aforementioned issues, the EMPD advises potential first-time motor vehicle buyers to rather ask people who have enough knowledge about motor vehicles to assist or accompany them.

People you may seek advice from, when purchasing motor vehicles for the first time, including motor mechanics, friends or family members in the vehicle industry.
