WATCH: Children send strong anti-GBV message

16 Days of Activism for No Violence against Women and Children, which runs annually from November 25 to December 10.

Given the scourge of gender-based violence (GBV) in the country, Bright Minds Academy in Villa Liza held a GBV awareness walk on November 29.

About 80 learners from the academy took part in the walk, which formed part of creating awareness of the 16 Days of Activism for No Violence against Women and Children, which runs annually from November 25 to December 10.

Holding placards with messages such as “Don’t kill my mum” and “Please love us and take care of us”, participants sent a strong message to perpetrators of violence to stop killing women and children.

They pleaded with community members to protect them at home and in the community.

Nomusa Makhubo, Bright Minds Academy principal, said “The purpose of the walk was to enlighten the young ones about GBV and encourage the community to not protect abusers but to report them.”
