Dog owner Sarah Lamont thanked the Boksburg SPCA and the public for the support.

Kei, the two-year-old Belgian Malinois-cross dog was on November 17 awarded with a bravery certificate from the Boksburg SPCA.

She was shot in the face while trying to protect her family during a house robbery in Lakefield last month.

During the intimate award session which took place at the family’s home, the Boksburg SPCA manager presented the family with two certificates, for Holly and Kei as well as a hamper full of dog treats.

Kei got injured when she was shot by an intruder who stormed the Lamont family home in Lakefield, Benoni in the early hours of October 3.

Lamont said Kei was happy to be back at home with her family and is copying very well. Kei is scheduled for another reconstructive surgery on November 23.

According to Boksburg SPCA manager Vicky Finnemore, although it was upsetting to see Kei’s deformed bottom jaw, she was happy to see that Kei was in good spirits.

“She was playful and affectionate and bounced around like a bunny rabbit,” Finnemore said.
