A woman who was part of a gang that robbed two Boksburg businesses in 2019 has been sentenced to an effective 40 years in jail for these robberies and three other crimes committed in other areas in Gauteng.

The other crimes are a murder ommitted in Pretoria, robbery in Edenvale and another robbery in Johannesburg.

She was sentenced to 30 years for her part in an armed robbery and murder of a man at a veterinary practice in Pretoria in 2019 and 10 years each for four business robberies. The 10-year sentences will run concurrently.

Linda Venter (29) appeared in the Johannesburg High Court on September 20, where she was convicted on all five counts.

According to Boksburg North SAPS spokesperson Const Justice Ramaube, during the business robbery in Boksburg, Venter and 15 men held employees at gunpoint at the premises in Jet Park and ordered them to load boxes of chocolates onto the two trucks they had arrived in.

“They also stole the staff’s cellphones before fleeing the scene with the goods estimated at R350 000,” explained Ramaube.
A case of business robbery was opened and the case was assigned to Det WO Robert Ngomane, who was assisted by WO Hercules Fourie, of the Boksburg North SAPS.

Investigations led the detectives to Venter’s home near Kagiso, but the suspect had already moved from this address. She was, however, arrested in Krugersdorp on August 26, 2019.

“Detectives linked Venter to a business robbery that took place on April 17, 2019, in Anderbolt, where an undisclosed amount of money and cellphones were stolen.”

Ramaube said Ngomane collected all the dockets from the various police stations in the areas where Venter was implicated.

“The dockets revealed that the accused was involved in a murder case in Pretoria and the Edenvale SAPS were looking for her in connection with a business robbery during which money and cellphones were stolen. At the Johannesburg Central SAPS, she was linked to a business robbery during which about R30 000,” said Ramaube.
Boksburg North SAPS acting station commander Lt-Col Kwena Meso commended Ngomane for carrying out a thorough investigation which led to the conviction and lengthy sentence.

The remaining suspects in the Boksburg robbery are still at large. Anyone with information should contact WO Ngomane 079 892 9879.
