Grade One and Eight online admissions now open

The applications can be accessed at www.gdeadmissions.gov.za until October 8.

The Gauteng Department of Education is excited to announce that phase two of the online admission applications got underway this morning, September 13.

Phase one officially closed on September 3, and the department recorded a total of 351 169 applications. The applications can be accessed at www.gdeadmissions.gov.za until October 8.

According to Gauteng Education spokesperson Steve Mabona, phase two will be for parents and guardians with children going to Grade One or Grade Eight in the 2022 academic year, but for those who are not in a public school in Gauteng.

Parents and guardians who were not able to apply on time during phase one for learners in Grade Seven at Gauteng public schools will be able to apply during phase two.

Parents and guardians applying in phase two are urged to prepare the following documentation and ensure it is all certified and correct:

• Parent and child ID or passport

• Refugee permit

• Asylum seeker permit

• Permanent residence permit

• Study permit

• South African birth certificate

• Proof of home address

• Proof of work address

• Latest school report • Clinic card/immunisation card (Grade One only)

The department urges parents and guardians to upload these documents onto the system or submit them at the school(s) they applied to within seven days of applying. It is also important that parents enter the correct details onto the system when applying.

“We express our gratitude towards parents and guardians who successfully applied, and the patience they displayed throughout the process. “We also wish to thank our entire team who helped make phase one applications a success. Our team will still be available for assistance during phase two applications on all our social media platforms, our decentralised walk-in centres and our call centre on 0800 000 789.”

Gauteng Education MEC Panyaza Lesufi said: “We have outdone ourselves this year, not just as the department, but as stakeholders, as parents and as guardians in having made the new two-phased approach a success so far. We wish every parent and guardian applying under phase two the very best and we assure them our team will be there to assist them every step of the way.”
