Silver anniversary for car dealership

Newcomer to VMAX Square, Classé Cars celebrated its 25th anniversary on July 1.

The family-owned and run business was established by Johann Engelbrecht in 1996 after he left the corporate world to join the motor industry.

The business first operated from the K90 Centre in North Rand Road and later moved to the corner of Edgar and Trichardts roads.

A further move took the car dealership to the second property in Trichadts Road, where they stayed for 12 years.

Engelbrecht, who has over 40 years of experience in the motor industry, started his career as an aircraft engineer for SAA, at what was then Jan Smuts Airport.

His mechanical background and wealth of knowledge about vehicle mechanics added to his confidence around aircraft engines.

Later, Engelbrecht joined Kawasaki as a sales representative and then worked for Pat Hinde and Boksburg BMW as general manager.

He was also dealer principle for Mercurius Motors and managing director of Mercedes Sandown Motors before opening his own business on his birthday, July 1, 1996.

Engelbrecht works alongside his daughter Siobhan, who has also gained extensive knowledge during the past 10 years of her involvement in the motor industry.

The family unit operates its used car business following strict corporate guidelines and with an emphasis on customer excellence and satisfaction.

Classé Cars offers one-stop convenience for customers and offers experience and expertise in finance, insurance, extended warranties and many other products available in the used car market.

“Besides our sales and support staff sharing the same vision as our family, our motto has always been ‘the sky’s the limit’ and we always ensure our customers experience just that,” Engelbrecht said.

“We are proud to have grown into one of the oldest – if not the oldest – privately owned car business in town.”
