#SaveRhinos: keep fit while helping rhinos

All profits of the initiative will go towards rhino conservation.

The Insimbi Legacy Projects, an NPO focusing on conservation, is reminding avid runners and animal lovers that they can participate in the organisation’s Run For a Cause virtual event.

Participants from all over the country can enter the virtual race at www.insimbilegacyprojects.co.za to run, walk, jog or cycle for five or 10km from any chosen location.

Entry fees are R100. Members of the public can also purchase a virtual race bundle for R250, which includes an entry ticket, a green Insimbi T-shirt and a medal.

Insimbi’s virtual race is part of a series that will be held monthly to raise funds for rhino fodder and the anti-poaching unit.

The idea was conceived by a local businesswoman and brand ambassador of the Insimbi Legacy Projects Sharon Janse van Rensburg after the hard lockdown had a dire impact on the organisation’s finances.

“This event is a fun way to keep you motivated, fit and healthy. It also allows you, friends and family, to take part in contributing and protecting our rhino. Furthermore, it’s a good way to create awareness around protecting rhinos for the future generation

“By supporting this project, you will also help an anti-poacher to put food on his or her family’s table,” said the ambassador.

Carmela Lattanzi started the Insimbi Legacy Projects to involve the public in the fight against poaching after one of her widely admired rhinos, Insimbi, was killed in 2014.

If you can assist the organisation in any way, send an email to the Advertiser’s Tayla Smit (taylas@caxton.co.za), who is Insimbi Legacy Project’s July ambassador of the month.
