Police officer killed while allegedly robbing Boksburg business

The police officer was allegedly part of the suspects who tried to rob a business in Mapleton.

An off-duty police officer, who was allegedly part of a gang of robbers who tried to rob a business in Mapleton on June 15, was shot and killed.

The officer, who worked at a local criminal record centre, was killed during a shootout with the security guards at the business premises.

According to the Gauteng SAPS spokesperson, Capt Mavela Masondo, about six suspects arrived at the local business and pointed firearms at the security guards.

“One of the security guards was shot and injured while one of the suspects was fatally wounded. Preliminary investigation revealed the shot suspect is a member of the SAPS.”

Masondo said the other suspects escaped without taking anything. Police are still searching for them.

“The police are appealing to anyone who might have information that can help with the investigation to please call their nearest police station or Crime Stop on 08600 10111. The information can also be given anonymously via MySAPS App that can be downloaded from any smartphone,” Masondo said.
