Boksburg SPCA holds outreach in Sky Street

The Advertiser had the opportunity to spend a few hours with the Boksburg SPCA team during the outreach programme.

The Boksburg SPCA reached out to the community of Sky Street on June 23 by handing out pet food, dog collars, water and food bowls and deworming pills to pet owners.

Boksburg SPCA cadet inspectors Ralph Chivaviro and Denise Govender used the opportunity to educate pet owners on how to look after their animals.

Chivaviro shared with the Advertiser that during their outreaches they also conduct home visits to check the welfare and living conditions of the animals.

Handing the donated dog collar to Sky Street resident Annie Swemmer is Denise Govender, Boksburg SPCA inspector.

“If we come across a cruelty case we deal with it and assist with whatever need arises,” said Chivaviro.

During the outreach, the inspectors came across a house where a dog was chained up.

Chivaviro wasted no time and cut the chain and then advised the owner to restrain from tying the dog up again.
Furthermore, one of the residents opted to surrender her dog to the Boksburg SPCA.

Govender stated they always advise the public that if they are no longer able to care for their pets they have the option of surrendering them to the SPCA.
