A group of school-going girls from the residential properties near the Boksburg Lake on Commissioner Street require your support to secure a kit for their netball team.

In efforts to keep youngsters off the streets in their neighbourhood, a group of girls formed a community netball team in January.

However, the girls, aged between 15 and 20, are still in need of a netball kit and other equipment.

According to one of the founders of the team, Kim Tommy, the lack of a kit and a proper netball court have remained a stumbling block for the community initiative.

“Currently, we are using the basketball court as our training ground at the Boksburg Lake. Our team also need a proper netball facility.
“It will be great even if we can get anyone to donate the netball poles. The objective of this initiative is to keep our peers busy after school so that they don’t mix with the wrong crowd and pick up bad habits.
Team member Anita Masiska said: “Netball doesn’t only keep us off the streets, but it keeps us fit and healthy. As learners it also helps us to focus at school,” said

The girls said since they started their sporting journey, they’ve encountered several challenges.
“We often find people using drugs and drinking alcohol around the court, and this sometimes prevents us from using the facility for fear of our safety,” said Anita.
