UPDATE: SPCA happy with Oliver’s progress
The Boksburg SPCA received enormous support from the public, which enabled them to give Oliver the best medical care.
Oliver, the dachshund-cross that was surrendered to the Boksburg SPCA in a car oil-soaked bucket, is well on his way to a good recovery.
According to the Boksburg SPCA manager, Vicky Finnemore, the society is happy with the little dog’s progress.
“Oli knows his way around the Boksburg SPCA now and loves going outside for his morning walks. He’s also gaining weight,” said Finnemore.
Furthermore, the dachshund-cross enjoyed a day of pampering at The Doggy Parlour on May 26.
“Oli looks so smart now that the remains of the car oil have been removed from his body.
“A big thank you to Angela Brinkley and her staff for sponsoring his grooming session.”
Finnemore highlighted Oliver still needs a few weeks to fully recover, adding he’s not up for adoption yet.
Oliver was brought into the SPCA by his owner recently who told the staff he no longer wanted the dog and said it had been sick for a long time.
The dog was rushed to a vet for assessment and the SPCA staff had to bathe Oliver four times to remove the car oil from his body.
Oliver’s brother
Finnemore said Oliver’s brother, Huckleberry, who has also been surrendered to the Boksburg SPCA, is doing well.
“Huckleberry is thriving at the Boksburg SPCA and comes out every day to spend some time on the grass in the sunshine.
“Unfortunately, we won’t be able to rehome Oliver and Huckleberry together because Huckleberry is quite dominant over Oliver, which is not good for Oliver’s confidence at this time.
“They’ll flourish in individual homes where they’ll be loved and receive the attention they deserve.
Huckleberry is good with other dogs and even cats and we’ve got hundreds of people wanting to adopt him. Huckleberry is going to be just fine,” Finnemore said.
The manager added the little brother should be up for adoption in about a week.
