Round Table 17 Boksburg welcomes new chairperson

The new chairperson described himself as an introvert who loves to socialise

Impala Park’s Walter van Rooyen was recently inducted as Round Table Boksburg 17’s new chairperson.

Van Rooyen, who became part of Round Table in 2017, will be taking over the reins from Jean-Claude Duarte.

He grew up in Boksburg and attended Parkdene Primary and Boksburg High schools.

“It is going to require a bit of work to grow our Table membership and to achieve our current project,” said van Rooyen.

He said he’s going to work hard to help make a success of the organisation’s projects.

“As per usual, we have our annual Winter Knights project where we collect blankets and winter essentials like clothing for those in need.

“Furthermore, we’re attempting to raise funds to assist a boy to undergo necessary surgery that can only be done in America. We need to raise a considerable amount; however, we hope we can make it soon through various projects and sponsors. So please keep an eye on our social media pages to know when we are planning our next events,” he said.

The new chairperson described himself as an introvert who loves to socialise.

“I always had a caring nature to those next to me and those less fortunate than me. In a few instances, you could say I have given the shirt off my back to those in need. I literally gave my last bit of cash to someone who really needed it. This led me to be stuck at a tollgate with no card and no cash. However, I would do it again.”
