Learner rewarded for helping to clean lake

Moeti won a one-night stay for two at a luxury hotel at Emperors Palace

Thato Moeti, a Hoërskool Voortrekker learner, was recently rewarded for participating in the Boksburg Rotary Club’s successful clean-up at Boksburg Lake on World Water Day, which was on March 22.

Approximately 100 community members came out to assist with the Rotary’s clean-up session held in association with Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH), Armour and Cleaner River.

According to Derek Fox, Rotary Club of Boksburg president, volunteers had to post pictures of themselves cleaning the lake on social media to stand a chance to win a one-night stay for two at the Peermont D’oreale Grande Hotel at Emperors Palace.

The prize, valued at R3 500, includes breakfast for the winners.

Moeti said she is over the moon about winning the competition.

“I’m so excited and did not expect to win. I’m taking my mom with me to Emperors Palace,” she said.
She thanked the Rotary Club of Boksburg and Emperors Palace for the prize.

Meanwhile, Fox expressed his gratitude to group hospitality and executive at Peermont Dave Milne and Emperors Palace for sponsoring the prize and supporting the club’s initiative.
