WATCH: Donations are music to the SPCA’s ears

Donations received on the day were donated to the Boksburg SPCA.

Musicians, the public and a local pub/restaurant recently hosted a fund-raiser for Boksburg SPCA, which brought in more than R20 000 along with heaps of other donations.

Challa B and Johnny Meyer performed at The Brazen Head in Parkrand on April 25.

It has proven to be the biggest fund-raiser they have performed at for the SPCA since they became part of such initiatives five years ago.

Of the collected funds, R20 000 was donated by a Pretoria company, SAIDRS. Apart from the monetary contributions, guests brought along heaps of puppy and kitten food, water bowls and fleece blankets for the animals at the society.

“Despite the economic challenges posed by the impact of Covid-19, the community of Boksburg came out in their numbers to support this great initiative. It is amazing how the community pulls together to support our local SPCA,” Challa B said.

“Our love for animals prompts us, every year, to donate to the SPCA, although last year we couldn’t host the event due to lockdown. As performers, we always give back to the community by doing charity work for elderly people and children’s home, among others,” Meyer said.

The Brazen Head is always happy to offer the venue for the fund-raiser and welcome patrons from near and far.

SPCA cadet inspector Ralph Chivaviro welcomed the donations. “On behalf of the Boksburg SPCA, I would like to say thank you to everyone for their efforts. Animal food is always needed because we have dogs and cats coming in every day.

“Initiatives like these prove the people of Boksburg are dedicated to animal welfare,” Chivaviro said.

Marizka Kloppers, one of the organisers of the event, said: “We thank everyone who supported this initiative, including Spar Parkrand for their donation.”

Donations of dog and cat food were collected.
