Boksburg SPCA’s blue-eyed Great Dane finds forever home in KZN

Hope went to her forever home in Westville on March 21

The Clarke family recently gave Hope a new lease on life in KwaZulu-Natal by adopting her from the Boksburg SPCA.

Hope, a female merle Great Dane with blue eyes that was previously named Luna by SPCA staff, was rescued by the society on March 11.

According to Vicky Finnemore, manager of the Boksburg SPCA, this came after a concerned member of the public alerted the society about a malnourished dog in Windmill Park.

Hope was underfed when the Boksburg SPCA took her in on March 11.

“Our inspectors followed up and found the dog was skeletal and starving. The society then convinced the owners to surrender her,” the manager said.

The SPCA put the Great Dane up for adoption and shared her photo on social media. Alastair and Lynley Clarke of Westville, KZN, saw the post and wanted to adopt her.

Finnemore explained the couple filled in an online adoption application and Boksburg SPCA immediately requested their local SPCA to conduct a home inspection.

“The inspection was successful,” she added.

Allastair and Lynley came from Westville to pick her up on March 21.

The meet-and-greet session went well, and the couple decided to name their new dog Hope.

Lynley explained Hope immediately crawled into their hearts when their daughter, Catherine, showed them a picture of her.

“We were looking for a friend for our nine-year-old Great Dane, Josephine. We’re so happy and can’t wait to give Hope love. We already have a special bed for her,” she said.

She pointed out they know the breed well as they owned nine Great Danes throughout their married life.

The Boksburg SPCA advised the public that if they are no longer able to care for their pets they shouldn’t resort to acts of cruelty – they have the option of surrendering their pets to the SPCA.
