WATCH: Truck catches fire on Rondebult Road, driver escapes unhurt

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Northbound traffic on Rondebult Road came to a standstill on the morning of March 24 after a truck burst into flames next to the Sasol Garage on Rondebult Road near Checkers Hyper and Espri Avenue.

The truck driver reportedly told police that while driving the vehicle started to lose power and made a strange noise. Then the engine cut out before the truck came to a halt. The truck then burst into flames, and the driver jumped out uninjured.

Firefighters, police, paramedics and other authorities were called to the scene.
According to EMPD spokesperson Kobeli Mokheseng, the disposable nappies-laden truck, en route from Wadeville to Isando, caught fire next to the filling station at about 7am, heavily affecting traffic.

“The lane remained closed off for some time while the City’s emergency services members worked to bring the fire under control, and removed the remains of the truck. The cause of the fire is still under investigation,” said Mokheseng.
