Police caution car dealerships to be vigilant against carjackings

During the campaign educational pamphlets were handed out to car dealership employees.

As part of the Boksburg North SAPS’s efforts to clamp down on the number of carjacking cases that have been reported recently at the police station, officers have embarked on a campaign targeting car dealerships.

According to the police, a number of dealerships around Trichardts, North Rand and Rietfontein roads have been targets of a modus operandi used by criminals to steal their cars.

Boksburg North police spokesperson Const Justice Ramaube said in most cases suspects will pose as customers and would test drive the cars. They will then hijack the vehicle and drop off the dealership employee somewhere.

Officers handed pamphlets and educated dealerships around their policing vicinity on how they can prevent such crimes.
