BAS stars eyeing Cape Town

Local swimmers looking to make a mark in CT

Boksburg Aquatic Saints (BAS) Swimming Club triumvirate Aidan Bornman, Divan Pretorius and Jaiden Staines will feature at the Swimming South Africa (SSA) High-Performance Olympic relay training camp time trial to take place in Stellenbosch from February 13 to 20.

The trio will be joining fellow saint Kian Keylock who aims to take advantage of rubbing shoulders with other top swimmers from the country.

The camp sees the top swimmers based in the country earn selection as part of the preparation for the 2021 Tokyo Olympic Games.

Much like Keylock, Staines is scheduled to swim multiple freestyle events with Bornman and Pretorius set to take to the pool for many breaststroke and individual medley races.

Divan Pretorius
“Preparations are going well. I’m training hard inside the pool and using my time at home to recover and stretch.

“I feel like I am going to swim faster than before and clock new personal best times. I feel a lot stronger than before. I made some small changes in my stroke, which has benefitted me.
“All in all, I am excited for this opportunity and feel positive about it.”

Jaiden Staines
“I’m feeling pretty confident to clock some fast times.”

The Advertiser could not reach Bornman for comment.
