Local cricket clubs wait as CSA announcement looms

All eyes on CSA

Cricket South Africa (CSA) is expected to give an update on amateur cricket on February 15 after the game’s governing body announced the delay of all forms of amateur cricket on January 6 due to the country’s Covid-19 infection number in recent times.

On the delay, acting head of Cricket Pathways Edward Khoza said: “CSA and its members are exercising their duty of care by adjusting the initial timeframe for the resumption of the game at this level.

“While we appreciate the eagerness of our buddying cricketers to play, we are, unfortunately, constraint by the reality of the pandemic, from which cricket is not sparred.
“In an effort to make up for the time lost to amateur cricket, CSA is considering the possibility of extending the playing window to the end of May. Further, senior provincial men and women will be prioritised as we explore the option of having tournaments played within bio-secure environments,” concluded Khoza.
Meanwhile, locally, CBC Old Boys Premier League captain Casey Arnold has said the side will begin preparation for the new season either way, in the hopes that CSA will come with good news for everyone involved with the amateur game.

Arnold explained the Premier League side will start their two-days-per-week training session on January 27 and again on January 31 until the amateur game receives the green light.

Elsewhere, Boksburg Cricket Club skipper Adam Forbes said although training has not started at Prince George Park, their preparation is hinging on CSA’s update.
