St Francis Care Centre’s doors are open for community members

St Francis Care Centre is a registered NPO which caters to dozens of vulnerable children and adults, most of them suffering from threatening and/or life limiting conditions

The St Francis Care Centre (SFCC) reminds the public that the centre is still operational and ready to assist the community.
Fr Stan Brennan founded the SFCC in 1992 to provide hospice and palliative care to persons suffering from life-threatening and/or life-limiting conditions where they will be cared for in a professional and comfortable environment while their physical, spiritual, emotional and social needs are catered for with care and dedication.
The care centre expanded significantly and now offers the following four programmes:
Adult hospice
The hospice offers palliative care to patients suffering from illnesses such as cancer, diabetes, neuropathy, hypertension and HIV/Aids.
Children’s section
The Rainbow Cottage for children was established in 1996 and provides residential care to 35 abandoned or orphaned children from birth to seven years old.
The children aged between 3-7 years also attend a nursery school on the premises.
Home-based care
The centre has an active team providing home-based care to persons living with life-threatening/life-limiting conditions in Vosloorus.
National health component
St Francis Care Centre teams mobilise communities on a daily basis to test for HIV so that people can know their status and establish their general wellbeing by testing their blood pressure and blood sugar. Furthermore, they screen people for Covid-19.
Donations
St Francis Care Centre is a registered NPO and is extremely dependent of donations from the public to continue rendering their services.
The centre is in need of necessities like baby formula, nappies and financial contributions.
Centre manager Tilly Brouwer expressed her gratitude to all donors who are supporting the centre.
“We truly appreciate every donation that we receive. Our doors would’ve been closed if it wasn’t for their assistance,” she said.
Brouwer urged community members the public to support the centre’s charity shop and book nook.
The charity shop, situated at the centre (30 Olivia Road), is open from Monday to Friday from 8am to 3.30pm.
Residents can visit the charity shop to buy items such as ornaments, clothing, toys, furniture and appliances at reasonable prices or drop off second hand goods. Any donations are welcome and would be appreciated.
Anybody who is able to assist may contact the centre on 011 894 4151 or visit https://stfranciscarecentre.co.za/
