Football postponed by SAFA

All football, barring professional, has been postponed until further notice

SAFA (SA Football Association) recently sent out a letter to all football clubs advising that all football will be postponed until further notice.

SAFA CEO Tebogo Motlanthe said: “We wish to extend warm compliments of the New Year and offer comfort to those who have lost loved ones as our country is dealing with ravages of the pandemic.

“In light of the rising numbers of the Covid-19 infections within the country, we hereby wish to advise members that all non-professional football activities inclusive of training sessions, courses, workshops and matches are hereby suspended until further notice, by which time, the association through the Competitions Committee will make further risk assessments and advise.

“This is an extraordinary step in taking an interest in the safety of players, technical staff, administrators, match officials, the media and all other personnel involved in the organisation and staging of matches and other football events.

“Professional football will continue under the measure already being implemented by our special member, the National Soccer League.

“This must be done in compliance with the applicable protocols of government’s Risk Adjusted Strategy of the Disaster Management Act with respect to the curfew and closure of venues and as it is further explained in the directives, issued by the minister of Sport, Arts and Culture.

“Please stay safe, sanitise or wash your hands, wear a mask and keep a safe social distance.”
