BFS takes four illegal guns off the streets, arrest five suspects

Among the firearms recovered were an AK-47 rifle and a Protecta shotgun

On December 14, vigilant members of the Benoni Flying Squad (BFS) removed four illegal guns and 29 live rounds of ammunition off the streets and arrested five suspects in Boksburg.
According to the BFS spokesperson, WO Grant Giblin, it was at about 7.45pm when patrolling members spotted a suspicious-looking white Toyota Etios with five occupants driving on the N12.
“Members pulled the car over near the Rondebult off-ramp and upon searching the car, they found a .38 revolver, a 9mm pistol, an AK-47 rifle and a Protecta shotgun hidden in the vehicle, with a total of 29 live rounds of ammunition.
“None of these firearms were licensed and the shotgun was reported as stolen in a house break-in in Potchefstroom in 2017. All five occupants were immediately arrested and their car was impounded,” explained Giblin.
Police management is pleased with the recovery of the firearms and applauded the officers for being vigilant and confronting the potentially dangerous suspects.
The suspects were taken to the Boksburg North Police Station and are scheduled to appear in the Boksburg Magistrate’s Court soon. They were each charged with possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.
Investigations are underway to establish where all the other unlicensed guns came from – were they stolen, were they used in committing any crime.
