Ward 42 by-elections scheduled for December 9

Voters are reminded to take with them to the voting stations their ID, which is either a green barcoded ID book, a smartcard ID or a valid temporary ID certificate

With only one week to go, residents of ward 42 are encouraged to make their mark in the municipal ward by-elections on December 9 to elect new ward councillors.

In Boksburg, only residents or people registered in Ward 42 will be participating in the elections. Ward 42 consists of the following areas: Ramaphosa, Buhle Park, Cruywagen Park, Klipportjie, Els Park and Tedstoneville.

According to the Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC) spokesperson Kate Bapela, the ward was previously represented by the ANC, and the ward seat became vacant as a result of the death of its councillor, Eva Ngcwama.

The voter turnout for this ward in the 2016 municipal election was 58.89 per cent and the ANC candidate won the ward with 44.03 per cent of valid votes.

On December 9, residents from these respective areas can vote at the following stations from 8am to 5pm.
• Conquerors Through Christ Ministries (Ramaphosa)
• Noncedo Day Care (Ramaphosa)
• School of Achievements (Graceland)
• Tent vacant site (Cnr Vink Gans and Quail Str, Tedstoneville)
• Tent at Cnr Nitrogen and Osborn Str, Buhle Park)

Ward 42 will be contested by these candidates:
• Mongezi Victor Ntanjana (African Independent Congress)
• Musa Sylvia Nkosi (ANC)
• Izelle Senol (DA)
• Ngako Alfred Matladi (EFF).

Voters are reminded to take with them to the voting station their ID, either a green barcoded ID book, a smartcard ID or a valid temporary ID certificate.

Special voting will take place at voting stations as well as through home visits on December 8, between 8am to 5pm.

A by-election is an election held in a single political constituency to fill a vacancy arising during a government’s term of office.

A vacancy occurs due to the death of a ward councillor, the resignation of a ward councillor from a party or municipal council or the expulsion of a ward councillor from a party or municipal council.
