The Department of Education is ready for the 2020 final examinations

This year, Gauteng will have the largest number of candidates sitting for the examinations

About 235 975 candidates will sit for their final National Senior Certificate (NSC) examinations that are starting on November 5.

A total of 13 798 invigilators have been appointed and trained to ensure this year’s Grade 12 examinations are conducted according to the regulations.

The Gauteng Department of Education has highlighted that the 2020 Grade 12 exams will combine three categories of exams, the June, November and adult exams.

Gauteng MEC for Education Panyaza Lesufi said 1 866 centres are ready to host the exams.

“One thousand four hundred and nine monitors will be visiting centres to ensure compliance with the exam rules. Twelve thousand one hundred and forty-eight markers have been appointed and trained, while 2 034 venues have been secured for the marking of scripts which will be concluded on January 22,” Lesufi said.

The department has also insisted that all necessary materials have been given to the learners to assist them.

Lesufi said extra lessons have been conducted by teachers to ensure all learners have completed the syllabus and revision work.

“The Secondary School Intervention Programme (SSIP) is the major strategic intervention for the high-risk and highflyer learners for the 2020 NSC. The SSIP residential camps which were aimed at accommodating learners who are at risk of failing began on October 24 and ended on November 1,” he said.

The Grade 12 examination results will be released on February 23.
