Strydom named BAC’s MRRY

Strydom, Bonoko lead BAC 2020 awards

Wynand Strydom emerged as the biggest winner of 2020 when the Boksburg Athletic Club (BAC) hosted its AGM at the Boksburg Stadium on the evening of October 22.

Strydom scooped the prestigious Male Road Runner of the Year (MRRY) accolade to cap a brilliant year for him in what has been otherwise a challenging 2020 for all athletes and sports in general.

His silver lining did not end there as the MRRY trophy, also known as the Alan Euart Trophy, was accompanied by the Barton’s Trophy (Men’s Marathon Runner 2020) as well as the Len Morris Trophy (Men’s Veteran Road Runner 2020).

Elsewhere, Lucia Bonoko, who could not make it on the night, was named the Female Road Runner of the Year while Kshira Juggoo picked up the Most Active During Lockdown accolade.

Meanwhile, in the administration side of things, BAC president Sheree Rogers-Chapman will be running for her second term next year following the finalisation of the club’s committee for 2021.

Current BAC chairman Richard Montjoie was unanimously voted as chairman for another term. Montjoie replaced Benzi Tenza, who became the club’s first black chairman in 2018.

Frank Da Ascencao and Karen Bradshaw were named as the vice president and vice chairman respectively.

List of other award winners:

Lady Marathon Runner 2020 – Susan Laybourn
Women’s Veteran Road Runner 2020 – Susan Laybourn
Master Athlete of the Year – David Gamede
Boksburg Athletic Club Member of the year – Edite Bergonzi.
