SABU gives baseball return update

Progress as baseball eyes return

The South African Baseball Union (SABU) has released a statement concerning the long awaited return of the game.

According to the governing body, it has borrowed a page from how the government handled the gradual re-opening of the country.

Baseball will therefore will return in phases, starting from phase one to three.

The federation views the gradual return of the game as the safest possible way to ensure players’ safety while allowing players to get to do again what they love.

“The safety and well-being of the baseball family is of primary concern to the South African Baseball Union,” read a statement from SABU.

“Provincial and district federations and clubs are hereby authorised to gain/request access to baseball facilities under SA Baseball phase one – preparation of baseball activities providing that any local regulations are compiled with.

“The main objectives of SABU under the three-phase approach is to comply with national, provincial and local health and safety regulations and rules, as well as any additional measures required to ensure the safety and well-being of all baseball activities and stakeholders.”

What the three phases entail:

Phase one – preparation of baseball facilities (no baseball)
Phase two – start-up of baseball activities (practice only)
Phase three – start-up of full baseball activities
