The donated vehicle which will serve as patient transport has been full kitted with a medical kit, oxygen tanks and a tracker system

Christmas came early for Tambo Memorial Hospital staff and patients following a generous donation of a Hi-Ace 2.5lt diesel vehicle from Rand Refinery, a company based in Germiston.

As part of the Rand Refinery corporate social investment initiative that is focused on battling Covid-19, they donated PPE, furniture, sanitisers and non-contact sanitiser stations, disposable crockery and cutlery and a 50 inch smart television.

The vehicle will serve as patient transport.

The vehicle has been full kitted with a medical kit, oxygen tanks and a tracker system.

Deputy Health Minister Joe Phaahla and Gauteng Acting MEC for Health Jacob Mamabolo attended the handover ceremony, which took place at the Disaster Management Centre in Ormonde on August 31.

Mamabolo thanked and assured the sponsors that the goods donated will be taken care of and accounted for.

Chief executive at Rand Refinery Praveen Baijnath thanked frontline workers for their efforts during this pandemic.

“We have pledged over R10-million towards the fight against Covid-19 after learning that Ekurhuleni, which is the home of Rand Refinery, is listed as a hot spot,” Baijnath said.

Deputy minister for health, Joe Phaahla, who was the keynote speaker expressed his gratitude for the generous donation.

CEO at Tambo, Zenzo Ndabula, said the donation was much-needed to assist the hospital in the fight against Covid-19.

He also thanked the sponsors for identifying his hospital as a suitable recipient of the donation.

The Bertha Gxowa Hospital in Germiston also received the same donation.
